When it comes to Capital Vacations, we think Sandra said it best.
“Capital lied to me on so many levels it’s ridiculous. I don’t know how they are even still in business.”
How, indeed?
Despite all the complaints we have read on the Better Business Bureau website, how does Capital Vacations still make so much money?
After reading Sandra’s message the answer will soon became clear.
“We were originally gifted a deeded property at The Links.”
“But we were swindled at a presentation to switch to a point-based system. Everything the sales lady told us was lies.”
Like what?
“She told us that if we switched to the point system our maintenance fees would never go up and remain the same because we are not tied to just one resort.”
“The sales rep promised us that if we didn’t use our points, they would keep accruing.”
And how have things turned out?
“Our maintenance fees have gone up every year…”
That’s not good Capital Vacations! What else?
“…our points do not accrue…”
Hmmm. Beginning to spot a trend here Capital Vacations!
“… and when I called to ask what happened to our points that were supposed to accrue, they said they expired, and we were informed of that at the presentation.”
How can this be true, Capital Vacations?
“This is a lie. They blatantly lied to us.”
So, Capital Vacations gets you to buy points and agree to pay maintenance fees with promises the company doesn’t keep.
And that’s the key – Capital Vacations is financially successful BECAUSE of the lies, not despite them.
That’s why Sandra has a warning for every potential Capital Vacations customer.
“Don’t fall for their scams.”
Sandra’s story and all the other complaints with the Better Business Bureau make us wonder: just how many complaints will it take to get Capital Vacations to change their ways?
Maybe Travis Bary, the co-president of Capital Vacations, has a number in mind. Let’s email him at tbary@capitalvacations.com and find out.
And what about Jason Gamel, the President and CEO of the American Resort Development Association (ARDA)? He represents timeshare companies in Washington, DC. Surely, he must have some sense how many complaints about a timeshare company are too many. Email him at jgamel@arda.org to see.
Kenneth McKelvey, the chairman of ARDA’s Resort Owners Coalition, which claims to represent timeshare owners, might know too. Of course, he’s also an executive consultant to Capital Vacations. So, let’s see if his answer is similar to Travis Bary’s by emailing him at consumer@arda-roc.org.
