Read All About It!
The sales pitch of the old timely news boy.
And if he was lucky, there would be a headline scandalous enough to speed up his sales.
Our latest story about Diamond Resort not only would have a scandalous headline, but it’s also the kind of story where the headline would have writtenitself, as they say.
To Remove Dead Wife’s Name from Contract
Diamond Requires Upgrade from Disabled Veteran

Unfortunately, judging by the hundreds of complaints filed against Diamond with the Better Business Bureau, where we found today’s tale, Diamond’s poor treatment of veterans, and customers, won’t really come as news to anyone.
Here’s what our veteran had to say:
“I have been a timeshare owner with Diamond Resorts/Hilton Grand Vacations since 1998. For the last 25 years, we have tried giving them the benefit of the doubt despite the multiple lies that we have been told.”
“I am a retired disabled veteran and have not worked full-time since 2019. With the way I have been treated, I can no longer justify putting my limited income into the never-ending money pit that this membership is.”
Held for Six Hours
“One of the worst experiences I had was shortly after my wife passed away. She passed away in August of 2021, and in December of that year, I attended a meeting that I was ultimately held in for over six hours.”
“During this meeting, I was told that in order to remove my wife’s name from the contract and to make things easier for me, I would need to upgrade and combine all of my contracts together.”
“I feel that this wasn’t fair to me and I shouldn’t have needed to upgrade in order to update those documents.”
It certainly wasn’t fair…but that wasn’t the end of the abuse.
New Company, Same Treatment
After requiring our veteran to pay for an upgrade just to have his deceased wife’s name removed from existing contracts, Diamond required him to attend yet another presentation.
“Shortly after, in January 2022, I was told I needed to attend another meeting because Hilton was taking over Diamond.”
“I was assured that if I were unhappy with ownership, I would be able to sell my ownership. I was also told that I would never have to go to or receive calls about another presentation again.”
“That was all lies.”
Apparently, some things never change.
“With 25 years of ownership, I am shocked and insulted that I have been lied to and taken advantage of the way I have.”
We wish we could say the same.
Regrettably, Diamond’s behavior is old news.
But Mark Wang could change the narrative. He’s the CEO of Hilton Grand Vacations, which purchased Diamond Resorts in 2021. Let’s email him at mark.wang@hgv.com to find out if he’s doing anything – anything at all – to keep from generating headlines like ours.
Someone who can’t be happy to read headlines like these is Jason Gamel is the President and CEO of the American Resort Development Association (ARDA), the trade association that represents the timeshare industry in Washington, DC. Let’s email him at jgamel@arda.org to see if he can get Diamond to stop being such a big source of bad news.
