“A Glaring Example of Senior Abuse” at Capital Vacations

Fewer than two percent of Americans live to be 93 years old.

So, you’d think reaching the milestone of a 93rd birthday would be something to celebrate.

Unless you work for Capital Vacations.

Because, apparently, at Capital Vacations, a 93rd birthday is something to exploit.

That’s what we discovered after reading the dire message from someone who is caring for their ailing 93-year-old mother, found among the hundreds of complaints against Capital Vacations on file with the Better Business Bureau.

“This is a complaint against Capital Vacations for their unethical and predatory practices.”

“It’s caused immense distress and financial hardship for my 93-yr-old mother. She now lives in a skilled nursing facility and struggling with her health, was manipulated into signing a timeshare contract with Capital Vacations.”

Regardless of when she might have been tricked into a signing a contract, it’s clear she is in no position to be using a timeshare now.

“She cannot travel, has no financial means for this obligation, and is now burdened with a debt she cannot escape.”

Maybe, given her age and incapacity, Capital Vacations would cut her a little slack?

“Knowing this, the company still hounds her with bills!”

Okay, maybe not.

But perhaps they could come to some kind of settlement?

“Despite repeated attempts to resolve this matter directly with Capital Vacations, we have been met with resistance, indifference, and a lack of accountability.”

Perhaps not.

Maybe it’s time to get some outside help?

“We have been warned by them against seeking outside assistance, which only adds to the sense of manipulation and helplessness.”

So, at Capital Vacations there’s no end, no talk and no help when you’re 93.

This is a glaring example of senior abuse and financial exploitation.

No doubt.

“My mother worked hard all her life on a farm, contributing to her community and family.”

No one, especially someone of my mother’s age and circumstances, should be subjected to such predatory behavior.”

Which raises a good question: just how old do you have to be before Capital Vacations STOPS trying to exploit you?

Let’s ask Travis Bary, the co-president of Capital Vacations. Email him at tbary@capitalvacations.com to see what age he considers to be too old to harass (we know it has to be older than 93!).

Maybe Jason Gamel, the President and CEO of American Resort Development Association (ARDA), the trade association for the timeshare industry, has a number in mind. Let’s email him at jason.gamel@arda.org to see where he draws the line against senior abuse.

Been exploited by your timeshare company for ages? Use the information in this list of ARDA VIPs to contact its leaders and ask why.
