A Holiday Non-Shopping Guide for Capital Vacations

‘Tis the holiday shopping season.

We all know what that means.

Holiday shopping guides.  Those seasonal lists of what to get (and what not to get) for the loved ones in your life.

Capital Vacations owner Angelica can give you some pointers when considering timeshare purchases. We found her very organized guide to purchasing a timeshare with Capital Vacations while reviewing the very lengthy list of complaints against Capital Vacations on file with the Better Business Bureau.

Spoiler alert: Capital Vacations has been very naughty.

My experience with Capital Vacations Resorts has been nothing short of a nightmare from day one.

“What started as a promised ‘90-minute presentation’ turned into a grueling 3+ hour ordeal where we were shuffled between multiple aggressive sales agents each pushing different prices and packages.”

Not a very cheery start.

What else is on Angelica’s list?

Deceptive Practices: The contract signing was rushed with overwhelming paperwork that made it impossible to understand what we were agreeing to. We felt pressured and manipulated throughout the entire process.”

You better watch out when Capital Vacations asks for your signature in a hurry.

Hidden Fee IncreasesWe were told maintenance fees would stay at $74 but later discovered they would skyrocket to hundreds of dollars annually. This crucial information was completely withheld during our initial meeting.”

They “fee” you when you’re sleeping.

Unusable Points System: Despite receiving [thousands of] points, virtually every desirable destination (especially summer travel) require more points than we had, making the system worthless for actual vacation planning.”

Their system is a fake.

Intimidation Tactics: A representative actually threatened that Capital Vacations would place a lien on our home – completely unacceptable and unprofessional behavior.”

They’ll try to throw you out on the street.

Constant Upselling: Every interaction involved aggressive attempts to sell additional packages, including expensive ‘VIP’ upgrades.

So, say “no” for goodness sake.

This company preys on people’s desire for affordable travel while delivering the exact opposite experience.”

Whatever your timeshare shopping list includes, be sure to check it twice when Capital Vacations comes to town.

Good advice, all year ‘round, Angelica.

Maybe it’s time for Travis Bary, the co-president of Capital Vacations, to take a holiday from mistreating owners. Email him at tbary@capitalvacations.com to ask if Capital Vacations is going to be naughty or nice this coming year.

And let’s tell Jason Gamel, the President and CEO of American Resort Development Association (ARDA), the trade association for the timeshare industry, it’s time he started keeping a list of all the ways Capital Vacations makes owners cry. You can email Jason at jason.gamel@arda.org.

Has your timeshare company been bad this year? Use the information in this list of ARDA VIPs to let your company’s leaders know you’re putting them in the naughty column.
