If you’ve lived to the age of 83, you have seen a lot of change.
Since the early 1940s, the world has evolved from telephone party lines to smart phones…
…from adding machines to laptops
…from ocean liners to space stations.
But you know what hasn’t changed?
The tendency of scam artists and unscrupulous marketers to target the elderlywith their schemes.
In that way, you could say that Bluegreen Vacations is timeless.
Because after reading the complaints filed with various attorneys general and consumer groups, you can tell Bluegreen’s MO is to target seniors with their hardball sales tactics.
Seniors like Charlotte E, who filed a complaint against Bluegreen with the Better Business Bureau last year.
“I am 83.”
Congratulations, Charlotte!
“Regardless of your circumstances, if you already own a timeshare, especially at Bluegreen Vacations, you need to understand that you are a target for greedy salespeople.”
“Unfortunately, now, they clearly are operating like a big business that take advantage of all, but especially the elderly.”
How can Charlotte be so sure?
“Although I am old, I understand that I was duped into believing that an upgrade could lead to revenue generation through rental to friends and family.”
“Rather than going through the required financial and lending documents as required by law, they probably figured they could get away with not disclosing it and unfortunately, they did. Instead, they got me to opt out of a paper contract, further confusing me by handing me a CD-ROM, to review the contract.
A CD-ROM?
In 2023?
Talk about timeless!
Makes you wonder what Bluegreen was trying to hide.
“Giving someone my age and income a 15.99% interest rate, and an increase in maintenance fees of over $1,000 is usury, especially when those fees were just a bit more than $100 before the upgrade.”
16% interest rates?
Fee increases of 1000%?
That’s what Bluegreen didn’t want Charlotte to see.
“I was clearly taken advantage of. The salespeople were acting predatory, and this is heartbreaking. I’m under a lot of stress because of this and it’s not fair, not at my age.”
It certainly isn’t.
But it does seem to be the time-honored way of doing things at Bluegreen.
Let’s tell Bluegreen president and CEO Alan Levan it’s time for Bluegreen to stop preying on seniors like Charlotte. Alan’s email is alan.levan@bluegreenvacations.com.
And you might want to ask Jason Gamel, the President and CEO of the American Resort Development Association (ARDA), which represents the timeshare industry in Washington, DC, why Bluegreen is targeting seniors, time after time. Jason’s email is jgamel@arda.org.
