“We just want Bluegreen to leave us alone.”
While that could be the lament of just about any Bluegreen Vacations timeshare owner, this one belongs to Marshall, who told the Florida Attorney General:
“I am filing a complaint against Bluegreen Vacations Club for their deceptive and fraudulent business practices.”
You can read Marshall’s full list of Bluegreen’s “deceptive and fraudulent” practices on Timeshare Facts, but there is one important point that runs through his entire letter.
It’s never enough at Bluegreen.
No matter what issue Marshall raised with Bluegreen, their solution was always the same: buy more points…sign more contracts…pay even more money to get out.
“We purchased points with Bluegreen to book vacations with ease and convenience. They promised that these points would allow us to book extravagant stays at our preferred destinations.”
“This turned out to be a complete lie.”
“Not only were we unable to book the type of rooms we were promised, but the available options were either not where we wanted to go or did not fit our time availability.”
“We told them this and as a result, we were pressured into buying an additional 7000 points in order to make use of our initial purchase.”
But even that wasn’t enough for Bluegreen…because they charged more maintenance fees.
“The ongoing maintenance fees are a burden.”
And what did Bluegreen say when Marshall wanted out?
“When we requested to get out of our contract, they refused to take back the points and instead demanded an outrageous amount of $8,000 to eliminate one contract…”
EIGHT. THOUSAND. DOLLARS.
That’s a lot…but Bluegreen wanted even more.
“…and almost 2 years’ worth of maintenance fees on another contract (that is already paid in full by the way) for its elimination.”
“This is not right and they deliberately deceived us into making these purchases under false pretenses.”
We agree.
It’s time to tell Bluegreen president and CEO Alan Levan enough is enough. Let’s email him at alan.levan@bluegreenvacations.com.
And Jason Gamel, the President and CEO of the American Resort Development Association (ARDA), which represents the timeshare industry in Washington, DC, should learn there are limits, too. Email him at jgamel@arda.organd ask if agrees Bluegreen has gone too far.
