Hindsight is 20/20, so they say.
And the Better Business Bureau has received hundreds of complaints about Bluegreen Vacations that certainly seems to bear that out. The complaints filed by Bluegreen victims frequently have a wistful “If I had known then what I know now…” tone underlying their specific issues.
Frank is just one of those Bluegreen timeshare owners who now have a clear-eyed vision of Bluegreen, and he filed his complaint to raise a red flag for others about Bluegreen’s tactics.
“I have been having an ongoing battle with Bluegreen since I entered a contract with them on July 4, 2023. I was lured by RV rentals and log cabins in Gatlinburg, TN which I have determined to be the beginning of the company’s dishonesty.”
Frank’s first red flag came early.
“I was held hostage at the presentation for a grueling 8 hours! A clear disregard for my time and convenience.”
EIGHT. HOURS.
That sounds more like “abuse” than “disregard.”
Another red flag went up when Frank realized he wouldn’t have a say in picking his own timeshare property.
“The lack of freedom to choose my unit, coupled with coercive tactics like enticing gift card offers, revealed the company’s lack of ethical standards.”
And despite the eight-hour presentation, Bluegreen’s agents somehow failed to mention various vital details about Bluegreen ownership.
“Details crucial to making an informed decision were concealed during the sales pitch – important information regarding debt transfer to my children, a staggering 16% interest rate, and my right to rescindthe contract was deliberately omitted.”
That’s a lot to leave out!
“After careful review, I was shocked to find out about Bluegreen Vacations’ past legal battles involving deceptive sales. I now lack trust in their integrity.”
“I should have seen the red flag from a mile away! Avoid Bluegreen at all costs.”
To be fair to Frank, it’s hard to spot the warning signs when Bluegreen works so hard to hide them.
But, thanks to Frank, the rest of us can view Bluegreen with our eyes wide open.
And we should be sending some warning signals of our own.
Let’s start with Bluegreen president and CEO Alan Levan. It’s time he got the message that his vision for Bluegreen is a hazard to Bluegreen owners. Alan’s email is alan.levan@bluegreenvacations.com.
We should also try to get the attention of Jason Gamel, the President and CEO of the American Resort Development Association (ARDA), which represents the timeshare industry in Washington, DC. Let’s email Jason at jgamel@arda.org and ask what he’s doing to keep Bluegreen from steering customers into danger.
