Timeshare Stories: The Land of Broken Promises

What we hear most from folks about their timeshare company: Broken promises and FLAT OUT LIES!  With no way to get out of a bad deal…

Here are just a few of the broken promise stories sent to us recently about Westgate Resorts … maybe the reason Westgate sits #1 on the list of Worst Timeshare Companies!

JJ writes to us:
“I too was pressured into purchasing a timeshare through Westgate – I’ve tried several times to cancel this timeshare after realizing that they did not deliver what was promised. I’ve only been once and left early. Half of the amenities were either closed or broken down, the rooms were dirty and fixtures were broken. I tried to leave the presentation several times and they kept trying to keep me there by reducing the price and terms. I was also promised a “gift card” that at the end was expired or the location was closed. I feel like I’m being taken advantage of and forced to pay thousands of dollars for something that I was pressured into getting and I don’t want it. I’ve worked hard to build my credit to what it is and don t want to ruin it…”

Ms. EK told us:
“It never dawned on me to do some investigating on protecting my future with Westgate…came time for me to try to get rid of it because I was retired and on a fixed income. And that’s when the nightmare really began. I called Westgate to see if they would buy it back and they said that they had a program that they offered for hardship cases. Exactly what mine had become. But for some reason I was denied even though I was caught up with those over inflated HOA fees. They refused to work with me at all other than giving me some advice on what I could do. Such as rent, sell or pass it off to someone else. Of course no one would take on that headache.  …We are virtually trapped in financial obligation despite our inability to pay. For life!”

SJ’s story sounded very similar:
“I have been trying to get out of the Timeshare with Westgate – I’ve been waiting on the hardship letter from them for two weeks and they won’t send it!!”

And CE just threw up their hands:
“…First, we were talked into buying a package that visited three different Florida resorts. At the first stop, the room was absolutely filthy. A new life form was found growing in the coffee pot, bugs in the bathroom and a trash filled hallway.  The front desk staff was absolutely rude and offered no help. When going on the required facility tour we were shown a totally different building that was nothing like where we were staying.  We were so disgusted that we declined to continue on.  We were then informed that even though we had paid for this package, to get out early would now cost several hundred dollars more.”

“Second, while at Coco Beach, we attended another required update meeting. In the discussion, we were told that an outbuilding there would be torn down shortly and a new high-rise would be built closer to the ocean.  As all the paperwork with the city had supposedly been submitted and approved, construction would start shortly.  We were sold a bill that if we acted then, we could get two yearly connected rooms on a top floor for a greatly reduced to price. At last notice, they have our money but nothing has been done there.”

“…Now, with our current medical conditions and increasing age, we are looking at greatly reduced travels and somehow getting out of this Westgate timeshare”

Maybe the person at the top just doesn’t hear about it.
