Westgate “Lied to Me, Yet Again”

It’s not often that a timeshare owner gets good news from Westgate Resorts.

That’s why Gladys, who lives in New York City, was thrilled when, after several email exchanges, Westgate told her they would take the timeshare she could no longer afford off her hands through their Legacy program.

For a $1,000 fee.

Once we are in receipt of the fee,” wrote Westgate, “a Quit Claim Deed (QCD) will be mailed to you for execution by all parties listed on the account. Please be advised once the Quit Claim Deed is received, you will not be required and/or responsible for any further payments on the account.”

Good news for Gladys!

As Gladys recounts in a letter to Florida’s Attorney General, “I accepted and PAID the $1000 fee that the company requested be paid to draw up the legal Quit Claim Deed for me to give it back to them for resale.”

And that’s where the good news ended.

We found Gladys’s good news/bad news story in the 4,256 pages of complaints against Westgate Resorts in the Florida Attorney General’s office.

Gladys says that after she paid her $1,000 fee, something funny happened.

Or, rather, nothing happened!

“A month or so had gone by and I still had not received my paperwork. I look in my bank account and found that my $1000 had been refunded to me.”

Uh oh. That can’t be good.

After all, Westgate had promised that once the fee was paid, the quit claim deed “will be mailed to you.

“I called and they said they no longer need the inventory.”

What? Nobody at Westgate had ever mentioned anything about inventory before!

“I thought Westgate would stick to their word and send me the release documentation. Now, after months of thinking that I could be done with this nightmare, they tell me ‘sorry but we don’t need the inventory.’”

“They lied to me, yet again.”

When will the lying stop at Westgate?

Perhaps David Siegel would like to tell us. He’s Westgate’s President and CEO. Let’s email David at david_siegel@wgresorts.com and ask.

Or maybe Jason Gamel knows. He’s the President and CEO of the American Resort Development Association (ARDA), the trade association for timeshare companies. Westgate’s a pretty big deal in ARDA, so maybe Jason can let us in on Westgate’s plans.

Let’s email Jason at jgamel@arda.org to find out.

Do you get more bad news than good news from the leaders at your timeshare company? Use this list of ARDA VIPs to email them and ask why.
