“Westgate lied to us about being able to cancel anytime”

Timeshare sales agents are known to tell a tall tale.

And the stories they weave to get folks to buy a timeshare can be pretty complicated.

There are complex point schemes…

…and multiple steps if you want to rent our your timeshare to others…

…and crazy financing combo’s with loans, new credit cards and PayPal accounts.

But sometimes

…just sometimes we come across a case like Brittany’s, where the deception from Westgate sales agents was pretty straightforward!

Brittany wrote to the Florida Attorney General all the way from her home in Bridgeton, Missouri, to say, Westgate lied to us about being able to cancel anytime through the Legacy Program.”

Her story is right there in the 4,256 pages of complaints about Westgate in the Florida Attorney General’s office.

“I was bullied into purchasing a timeshare after numerous of times saying no.”

“The whole time that I talked to the presenter I kept saying that I didn’t want it. He kept saying don’t worry, because you can just turn it in to the Legacy Program. We aren’t like other timeshares…’”

Now, we know many of you have heard this before.  But Brittany had not.

And, as Brittany discovered, it wasn’t true.

We decided not to keep it. When I went home I got sick, so sick I thought I would be hospitalized. But I still sent them the letter asking to cancel my contract. I sent it next day service.”

“Once I called them to see if they received it the rep told me ‘yeah we got it, but it’s a day late’.”

“I asked them was there anything that could be done since it was just a day late and they said I could call the Legacy Program.”

Brittany called the Legacy Program and that’s when someone at Westgate finally told her the truth.

“They told me that you could not just turn it back in as I was told in the meeting.”

That I had to have died and the person that inherited it could turn it in.

“I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!”

“No, once you purchase you are stuck for life I see.”

So, there’s the truth about Westgate

You have to die before they will help you get out of your timeshare.

Let’s hope someone can help Brittany before it comes to that.

In the meantime, she offers a truth of her own: Westgate “…said ‘we aren’t like other timeshares,’ but they are.”

Think it’s time for Westgate to stop with the lies?

The American Resort Development Association (ARDA) represents timeshare companies in Washington, DC.

Jason Gamel is the President and CEO of ARDA. Let’s let him know that overly creative financing is a bad look for the industry.

Or… if you’ve heard the “good investment” sales pitch from another timeshare company, and want to let their top brass know, here is a list ARDA published of its VIPs across all its member companies. Maybe you can find your timeshare company executive and tell them about the consequences of deceitful sales practices.

And if your timeshare company won’t keep its promises, you can always let us know at info@timesharefacts.com.
