“Misrepresentation and Fraud” at Westgate

Wire to wire.

Cradle to grave.

A to Z.

There’s no shortage of phrases in the English language that refer to what can happen from the beginning of an experience to the end.

And yet…after reading the letter Elizabeth and Emmanuel from Dayton, Ohio sent to the Florida Attorney General’s office, we think we need a new term to describe how Westgate mistreats its customers every step of the way.

We found their letter in 4,256 pages of complaints lodged against Westgate Resorts. And Elizabeth and Emmanuel didn’t waste any time getting to the point.

“Due to a variety of factors related to misrepresentation and fraud, we have chosen to file a complaint through you, the Attorney General of Florida.”

They then describe how Westgate deceived them from start to finish.

We agreed to a one-hour presentation that ended up being six hours long.”

That’s quite the start!

“At no point during the presentation did they mention that maintenance fees would greatly increase.”

“When it came to signing it was done by the sales rep pointing and then asking us to sign. It was expressed to us that we did not have to read the documents before signing.”

And the signing certainly wasn’t the end of the deceptions.

“Since purchasing this timeshare, we have not been able to use it once.”

“A huge reason that we want out of this timeshare contract is because we are facing extreme financial hardship.”

But Westgate had promised there was a way to end things.

“We were told if we no longer had interest in the timeshare, that we could return it to the resort and they would take it back, or that we could sell it. When we notified them that we no longer wanted the timeshare, neither was an option!”

Apparently, at Westgate, there’s no end in sight.

It’s pretty clear they deceive customers from…wait for it…pitching to passing.

Think Westgate CEO and president David Siegel would agree? Let’s email him at david_siegel@wgresorts.com and ask.

Jason Gamel should be examining Westgate’s ways from top to bottom. He’s the President and CEO of the American Resort Development Association (ARDA), which represents timeshare companies in Washington, DC. Let’s email Jason at jgamel@arda.org to get him started.

Use this list of ARDA VIPs to contact your timeshare company’s leaders if they haven’t been straight with you from day one.
