The First Rule of Westgate Fight Club

Even people who haven’t seen Brad Pitt in the movie Fight Club know…

…the first rule of Fight Club is: You do not talk about Fight Club.

And after reading what Allen and Vivian from Charlotte, North Carolina experienced with Westgate Resorts, we’re guessing the sales force at Westgate are BIG fans of the film.

We found Allen’s story among the 4,256 pages of complaints against Westgate on file in the Florida Attorney General’s office…and it features quite the star turn by two Westgate sales agents, Tony and Corey.

“Vivian and I, without a doubt, were duped during our presentation at Westgate Resorts in Myrtle Beach.”

“Timeshares don’t work for us. Never have, never will.”

“So, our first question to Tony, our first sales rep, was, ‘Is this a timeshare?’”

“Tony was emphatic, ‘no.’”

Are you kidding?

The first rule of Westgate Fight Club must be: You do not talk about timeshares.

“Later another rep, Corey, joined us. Corey also insisted that this wasn’t a timeshare. A female supervisor joined us. The never told us her name. She too insisted that we were not being sold a time share.”

Now might be a good time to point out that Fight Club actually has eight rules. And the second rule of Fight Club is: You do NOT talk about Fight Club.

Seems like Westgate applies this rule to the word “timeshare” (whisper it) at Westgate Fight Club too.

The third rule at both clubs is: If someone says “Stop” or goes limp, taps out, the fight is over.

That must be why, when Allen and Vivian said they were worried about their pet dog, Tony insisted on accompanying them to their car.

“Tony escorted us to our car, Tony got our dog out of the car, put a leash on her, and Tony led the way with our dog back into the resort. Had Tony not done that, we would have talked over the program. And taken off.”

Tony certainly didn’t want to give Allen and Vivian a chance to tap out!

Because the seventh rule of Westgate Fight Club is: Fights will go on as long as they have to.

“There are no words to describe the incessant pressure.”

Tony and Corey cajoling us for more than eight hours, and the supervisor drifting in and out.  Buy, buy and buy, with intimations that we were foolish to pass on such a ‘good’ promotion.”

That sounds like the eighth rule of Fight Club: If this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.

Sadly, Allen and Vivian threw in the towel, due to sheer exhaustion.

“We did not have time to read the documents, and, probably would not have as we had already been there more than eight hours.”

“When we returned to Charlotte and had time to look over the program more carefully, made some phone calls, we realized we had been scammed.”

The truth: THIS IS A TIMESHARE PROGRAM as it says on some of the closing documents we were rushed to sign at the end of the day.”

This entire presentation is diabolical.”

Somewhere, the devilish Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt’s character) must be smiling.  And so is David SiegelWestgate’s CEO and president.

But he shouldn’t be. Let’s email him at david_siegel@wgresorts.com and tell him it’s time to shut down Westgate Fight Club.
